South East

South East England. The beautiful rolling downland of the South of England, has the counties of Kent, Sussex and Hampshire ; with far-reaching views of hills and valleys, and chalk streams and rich wild flora. There are medieval cathedrals built in the middle ages, and other ancient buildings still survive:  the cathedrals of Canterbury, Chichester, and Winchester- which was the capital of England. Many famous garden designers lived and worked here - Vita Sackville West of Sissinghurst  in Kent, arguably England's best known lady gardener, and Mottisfont Abbey in Hampshire which has the National Collection of old roses; designed by Graham Thomas. There are unspoilt villages with thatched cottages, lush farmland and a peaceful atmosphere.
Surrey is best known for Surrey Hills with their many woods which are filled with blue bells in Spring time and fabulous colour in the Autumn,   hidden in these hills you will find many lovely gardens ranging from tiny but immaculate suburban gardens to the true English style country gardens. There is the garden of one of our greatest gardeners, Gertrude Jekyll at Munstead Wood and most prestigious, the Royal Horticultural Society’s garden at Wisley.
